Vreseis Ltd  Foxfibre® Yarns

We sell yarn on cones and skeins for weavers, knitters, and others. The yarns are all made from certified organic cotton or wool. Most are raw, but a few of the newer yarns on skeins for knitters have been boiled in alkali water to remove the plant waxes, set the twist, and to set the color.

Cotton Has Natural Waxes

Have you ever wondered why cotton, which is treasured for its absorbency in textiles, doesn't get waterlogged in the farmer's field after a rainstorm? Cotton lint in the field, while still attached to the seed in the boll, is covered with a natural wax. This wax protects the lint and the seed from damage.

Because our raw unboiled yarns are not treated in any way, they have natural waxes which may be removed with hot water and washing soda or soap or detergent. Once the waxes are removed, the fabric will absorb moisture like any other cotton. If you want a more watertight construction, wash your fabrics in cool water with a wool washing soap or shampoo to preserve the waxes.
